900 trapped, 107 dead after China quake
CNN's John Vause reporting Live from Beijing
At least 900 students are said to be trapped after the collapse of a school in Sichuan province following a 7.8 earthquake. More than 3000 troops are being sent to the area to deal with the aftermath according to the state news agency. There are worries that the death toll may rise significantly. The official figure now stands at 107 dead according to Xinhua News Agency. Brian Baptie of the British Geological Survey told CNN that the quake was likely to have caused landslides in the area. He said earthquakes of this magnitude were relatively unprecidented and aftershocks would continue for some time.
