Hurricane Ike upgraded to category 3 storm

Hurricane Ike has been upgraded to a category 3. Although it is 5 days away from the east coast of the United States its rapid upgrade from a category one in only a few hours has increased concern. As the clear up gets underway in New Orleans, Florida may be the next to feel the full force of this building storm. Hurricane Hanna has gradually broken up in the meantime and meteorologists are keeping a watchful eye on tropical storm Josephine which is trailing behind Ike.
