Senator Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died following a long battle with cancer. Madelyn Dunham had been a key figure in Mr Obama's early life, and helped raise him in Hawaii. Her health deteriorated last month and the Democratic candidate left the campaign trail for two days to visit her in Hawaii. Barack Obama spoke of their strong bond and referred to her in some of his most powerful campaign speeches. She was 86 [BBC / Sky News].
